If you have a web site for your online business, then you really need to build a list of people who are interested in receiving email from you. Of course, if you have a web site, then you will also need to concern yourself with link building so that you can increase your standings within the Search Engines. So, is there any way in which you can combine list building with link building in order to be able to get the best possible results from both?

The first thing that you need to understand here is that link building is a very popular way in which to gain traffic and Search Engine popularity. With this being said, you would be right if you were to stop and think that Search Engine popularity will also increase your web site's traffic. This is especially true if you are able to get your web site listed within the top 10 or the top 20 natural search results for a particular keyword, or set of keywords. One extremely powerful way in which you can work on doing this is by building up links to your web site by submitting articles to article directories. You may be surprised, but this can truly supercharge the number of unique visitors that will arrive at your web site each day. Some of the other ways in which you can do this include:

1.   Spend some time networking with other web site owners. You especially want to target those web site owners whose web site is targeting a similar demographic as your web site, however your products should not be in direct competition with one another. Whenever you find such websites, you should offer to exchange links with them. Make sure that this is done on a case by case basis because you never want to get involved with any type of a link exchange service. Once you have started doing this, you will need to go through each of your outbound links at least once per month. You will want to make sure that none of these web sites have been banned by any of the Search Engines. If you discover that a web site has been banned by the Search Engines, then you will want to get your link off of that web site as soon as possible.

2.   You should also take time submitting your web site to the various link directories that exist on the Internet today. In order to be able to find these directories that are in your niche, you will need to go to your favorite Search Engine and type in the phrase, “web site directory.” This will produce a list of web sites for you to go to. Make sure to go to each of these link directories and submit your web site. This is quite effective because there are a lot of web directories that you can find online quite easily.

So, as you can see, it can be quite productive to build links in order to build your list.
